Diverse Culture

Another determining factor on whether a person will visit a place is the culture of the destination. Are the locals friendly? What about their food? Are they hospitable?

Of the 62,500 people of Koh Samui, most of them are Buddhists with some Muslims and Christians. They are well-known for their openness and warmth towards tourists. The hotels of Koh Samui prepare a wide range of dishes like Chinese, Mexican, Italian, French, Indian and many other types that guarantee you will never feel left out or homesick. The natives also have a specialty on a wide range of seafood.

The people of Koh Samui also celebrate a wide variety of festivals such as;

The Chinese New Year in February.

Songkran (The Thai New Year) in April where families pay a visit to their local temples to share food. Later in the evening, they throw parties all over the island. On at least one day of the festival, the people of Koh Samui go out on the street and have a huge water fight!

The Loi Krathong (Festival of Light) in November where both natives and visitors alike purchase krathongs, which are small decorated boats containing three sticks of incense, a candle, a coin and other things. The candle is usually lit and the boat is placed in the waters of Koh Samui.

Temple Fairs that take place all year round and pass from village to village in Koh Samui.

Buffalo fighting is a very popular local sport. The fighting season varies but you can get lucky and participate in one if you visit Koh Samui at the right time.

Travel Insurance

I also have great advice to all the travelers. You should always have travel insurance when traveling, be it for a vacation or for any other reason. It saves you a lot of time, hassle and anxiety. Think of all the benefits you can get from travel insurance in case of unforeseen circumstances such as medical emergencies or flight cancellations.

Travel insurance can help you reclaim your cancellation and rescheduled flight fees, get medical attention even when in remote areas, compensate for emergency accommodation in case of delays, replace your lost or stolen luggage and also give you the peace of mind you need when on vacation, especially when traveling with family as they will also be covered.
